I often wonder, like a kid in the corner of the cafeteria without many friends, if this blog would be more popular if I picked one genre and stuck with it - like just music stuffs, (although I'm usually the last to pick up on the "it" bands, so I'm not much of a taste maker, more someone who gets really excited and jumps up and down when I see or hear something I like, which is typically after everyone else has jumped ship), or just outfit photos, but doing just outfit photos is boring to me. Granted, I like looking at blogs that are just outfit photos, and I do have an expectation that clothes and fashion inspiration are what I see when I go to those sights, and I go to them because I like them, but it makes me realize that I give potential readers very little expectation when they arrive. I like to think of this blog as sort of a grab bag of goodies. (no baddies here!)
So, I can either make it a plan to make my blog popular by focusing my efforts on one genre, then doubling those efforts for more and better content, or I can keep puttering along posting all the things I get excited about.
Hey! Wait! That's my THEME! "Things Amanda Gets Excited About." Maybe I should just rename this blog?

Miss the reaching arm on the header. So many days that feels so like me - reaching and not getting exactly where I had hoped.
Amanda, I like your blog just the way it is. Don't change a thing, woman. Your transparency, voice, and fact that you write on everything from fashion to religion is one of the reasons I read it daily. And I hardly check any blogs daily!
That being said, I totally hear you on feeling the pressure to narrow down/focus...eh...I am bad at that myself. But I think hard-set genre blogs are overrated. :) Maybe this is my wishful thinking, but perhaps blogs with unique voices are starting to attract more notice, rather than The Best music blogs, food blogs, etc? There's just too much competition with those wide-swath categories.

That is so funny that you write about this. I was just talking to a friend about blogs,and your specifically came up in conversation. While I agree I couldn't put yours into a category, that's why I like it so much. I've been a fan of your blog since I started blogging, and in fact you've inspired me to stop trying to fit a mold! I'm just too darn A.D.D. to blog about a focused topic and if I enjoy reading your "grab bag" blog so much, what is to stop me from just blogging what I like? Thanks for inspiring me, Amanda! You're amazing!

I agree with Eavesdropper and Lane. I'm vacillating about starting a grab bag style blog or a prego lady/first time mommy blog. I have found TONS of mommy blogs (REALLY good ones, too!)and have thought of some cute names for that style blog. But really, I must be realistic. Keeping up with ONE blog will probably be enough. So, I think I'm going to follow your lead and incorporate all things Julie (hmmm, a name consideration?).
I love reading your blog because I never know what the next post will be about, but the same themes are often incorporated which gives your posts a nice flow. Ok, I'll shut up now. :-)
